Excursions from Propriano

Full day Excursions :

Bonifacio (departure 09h00 return 18h00)
Passage by Sartene, " the most Corsican of Corsican towns" according to the authot Mérimee. Halt at the Roccapina Lion (silhouette of pink granit lying by genoise tower) and arrival in Bonifaccio, fantastic fortress town built on the chalk cliffs overlooking the sea.
Free time to lounch in Bonifaccio.
Visit of the upper town, authentic fortress, and citadel, considered as being on of the most reknowned in the Mediteranean.
Visit of the caves and cliffs by boat (50 min.) from the marina.
Possibility to ascend to the old town on the "little train" with guided commentary.
Return journey to Propriano by the coast road.

The Bavella Massif and Porto Vecchio (departure 09h00 return 18h00)
Departure from Propriano towards the "spin a Cavallu" Genoise bridge (one of the sevne Genoise bridges classed historical monuments), halt at Sainte Lucie de Tallano, famous for its Diorite Orbiculaire stone (unique in Europe), visit of the church and convent of St. François, the Bavella pass (1243m) and panorma of the Bavella"needles", the Ilarate pass (991m), the Ospedale Forest and view of the dam, before descending into Porto Vecchio.
Free time to lunch.
Afternoon free Porto Vecchio with its Prophyry rocks and whose magnificent gulf (the sea is turquoise) is dotted with white sandy beaches, Palombaggia being the most famous.
Return to Propriano by the coast road.

The Prunelli (departure 09h00 return 17h00)
Departure from Propriano to Cauro by the Saint Georges pass (747m), through the Zipitoli forest, alt at the Genoise bridge, and arrival in Bastelica, birthplace of Sampiero Corso, one the historic figures who most marked the island. Typical Corsican lunch.
Return by Prunelli Gorge with panoramic view of the artificial lake at Tolla, the hydo-electric dam, and through the agricultural region of Bastelicaccia.

The Piana creeks and Porto (departure 07h00 return 19h30)
Departure from Propriano towards the belvedere of the San Sebastiano pass via Ajaccio, alt in Cargese, fishing village with two church, one Greek Othodox and the orther Latin, through the village of Piana, and down the Piana creeks, with alt to view the astonishing pink granit needles at a height of 300 above the sea level, and then the descent into Porto.
Free time to lunch in Porto.
Return by Spelunca Gorge, Evisa and the Altone forest, the Deux Sevi pass, Vico and Sagone.

Corte or the heart of Corsica (departure 07h30 return 19h30)
Departure from Propriano towards Ajaccio, and climb to the climatic station of Bocognano, and on to the Vizzavona pass (1163m) and forest (Laricio pines and beech trees), before descending towards the typical inland villages of Vivario and venaco, passing by the famous Eiffel bridge (Vecchio Viaduc)
Arrival in Corte (the stronghold of Pascal Paoli) and historic capital of the island, seat of the university of Corsica.
Free time to lunch in Corte.
Visit the citadel, the church of the annunciation. Leave time for an incursion into the Restonica Gorge.
This excursion may also be made by train from Ajaccio.
